![]() ![]() ![]() Actually, the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick were primarily designed to stream media over the internet, but they can also be used to play local video files with the support of external USB drive or SD Card. So any ideas, suggestions, input (in non-techie talk please) on what I can do? The filmmakers would appreciate it (as would I), as they're really like me to view their films before voting. If you are an Amazon Fire TV owner, you must know that you can expand the storage space of the set-top box via external microSD or USB drives. The Kindle does have HDMI connection so I could hook it to the tv, but if I can't get it to stream the films that doesn't do me any good. My laptop is older & doesn't have a HDMI connection, otherwise I'd just plug it into the telly (and I can't afford a new one at the moment, nor try to figure out W8). ![]() It brings up the film homepage after I've keyed in the password to access the film(s), but then I get the error code again. So I headed home, powered up the Kindle, went to the website to stream (via the Dolphin browser). They were closing & she was headed out for the holidays. Got Dolphin downloaded got to the open part on the Flash (after install) when the library's wifi went down & the Kindle froze. I happened to mention it to the local librarian (who's on her 3rd Kindle), and she said she was able to do a work-around, which involved going to 1 & downloading the Dolphin broswer, then downloading the Flash installer (the premise being to use Dolphin for web browser & use Flash in conjunction with that) & she streams shows like HGTV etc. When I try to stream the films I get an error code on the Fire, saying (going from memory here) your player doesn't support/can't play. But I've got the Kindle Fire HD so I thought I could use that as an option instead. ![]() I actually take the voting seriously so do try to see as many of the films as possible, but watching a gazillion films on my laptop screen isn't really going to work well, especially since it ties up the unit. Some of the smaller studios/filmmakers (think those that are doing documentaries, not The Hobbit or Les Miz) can't afford to send out screeners, so they're providing links to stream the films. As some of you know, I vote for Best Picture, etc. I recently bought the 8.9" Kindle Fire HD. ![]()
